Now that the holidays are nearly at an end and you’ve (hopefully) eaten, drank, and made merry to your heart’s content, it’s time to start the clean up process.

For those who acquired a real live tree to complete their holiday decor, that beautiful centerpiece is probably starting to shed its first leaves.

Don’t forget to remove all screws, nails, lights and ornaments from the tree before recycling. These items may be potentially hazardous if passed through chipping equipment.

Before it disintegrates completely, here are 20 places to get your Christmas tree chipped for free or by donation in the aftermath of this holiday season:

 

Victoria and Surrounding Areas

Community Youth Program 

By donation. Proceeds go to youth programming.

  • Where: Esquimalt, Archie Browning Sports Centre Parking Lot, 1151 Esquimalt Road
  • When: January 2nd and 3rd, 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Oak Bay Fire Tree Recycle 2021 (by Oak Bay Firefighters)

By donation. Proceeds go towards the Oak Bay High School Bursary Program.

  • Where: Oak Bay, 1703 Monterey Avenue, Fireman’s Park (behind the Fire Hall)
  • When: January 2nd and 3rd, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Castaway Wanderers Rugby Club

By donation. Proceeds go to the active participation of community youth in mini and junior rugby. Trees will be chipped by Bartlett Tree.

  • Where: Windsor Park next to the Rose Garden on Currie Road.

    • January 9th and 10th, 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Community Living Victoria

By donation.

Victoria Judo Club

By donation. Proceeds support youth and community athletics.

By donation (suggested $10/tree). Proceeds go to the club’s charitable donation.

Braefoot Community Association

Recycle your Christmas trees by donation, with all proceeds going towards supporting children’s programs at the community centre.

UVic Vikes Cross Country Team

Tree chipping by donation with proceeds going to support the UVic Vikes Cross Country Team.

  • Where: UVic Centennial Stadium parking lot
  • When: January 9th and 10th, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

West Shore Area

 

Colwood Volunteer Firefighter’s Association

By donation -proceeds to Colwood Volunteer Firefighter’s Historical Fund.

  • Where: Colwood Fire Hall, 3215 Metchosin Road
  • When: January 2nd and 3rd, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

BC Lions Society – Chip In for the Kids

By donation. Christmas tree chipping fundraiser.

Saanich Peninsula Area

Central Saanich Lions Club

Residents can get rid of their tree by donation to the Central Saanich Lions Club.

Funds raised go towards supporting local organizations such as the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation, Shawnigan Lake Kids Camp, Mount Newton Centre, Victoria Therapeutic Riding Association, Sidney Food Bank, and various local sports teams.

  • Where: 1703 Keating Cross Road (opposite the municipal works yard)
  • When: January 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Sidney Lions Club

Tree chipping by donation. Bottles will also be accepted until 2:30 p.m. Please remain in your vehicle.

  • Where: Overflow parking lot of Iroquois Park on Ocean Avenue
  • When: January 2nd and 9th, 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

676 Kittyhawk Air Cadet Squadron

Trees collected by donation with proceeds going to support the Kittyhawk 676 Air Cadet Squadran. Additionally, they are also hosting a bottle drive at the same time so scrounge through the garage and clear out the empties!

  • When: January 2nd, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
