Police investigating hate crime against Black man on downtown Victoria bus

Victoria Police are searching for the suspect of a hate crime after a witness reported an incident on a BC Transit bus.

At around 12:05 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, the suspect got on BC Transit bus 15 at Yates and Quadra Streets and started harassing a Black man on the bus.

For several minutes, the suspect yelled racial slurs towards the man, before then leaving the bus.

The incident was reported to police by a witness, who have identified the suspect using CCTV footage.

The victim in the incident has not yet spoken to police.

Officers say they need to speak with the victim in order to continue their investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, and the person who was victimized is asked to speak to VicPD at (250) 995-7654, extension 1.
