2020 is ending on a sloppy, wet note for Vancouver Island, with rain forecast throughout the evening and a rainfall warning on the West Island.

Environment Canada is predicting rain in Nanaimo, Campbell River, Port Hardy and Victoria through this evening with showers persisting into the first week of 2021.

The West Island is expecting the heaviest downpours, with a rainfall warning issued as a result of a storm system approaching the BC Coast.

Over the next 24 hours, rainfall totals are forecast to range from 80 mm near the coast to possibly more than 110 mm inland.

Strong winds are also expected for Thursday evening and into Friday, with a greater likelihood in exposed coastal areas.

Those who witness severe weather can send reports by email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
