Thieves drove a truck through the front door of a gas station in Sooke on Wednesday in an attempt to steal an ATM, according to the RCMP.

Sooke RCMP say that shortly before 4:00 a.m. on December 9th they received a report of a vehicle that had driven through the front door of Tim Horton’s and Petro Canada at 6080 Sooke Road.

Officers responded immediately and found that a truck had crashed through the front of the building. There were no occupants inside.

Police say they think suspects were trying to steal the ATM machine located inside.

Additional officers from RCMP Police Dog Services and Westshore RCMP assisted and together they were able to locate and arrest a male suspect hiding in some nearby bushes.

They are still looking for an additional male suspect they believe was involved in the incident.

The incident slowed traffic in the area, according to School District 62. The district said in a tweet that officials assured them that the gas line to the station was disconnected as a safety precaution while officers investigated.

Anyone with information related to the person or persons responsible for the break and enter is asked to call the Sooke RCMP at 250-642-5241 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
