Reports of a knife-wielding man chasing someone through traffic in downtown Victoria led to an arrest at gunpoint on Wednesday.

VicPD officers were called to the intersection of Blanshard and Johnson streets at approximately 1:30 p.m. on December 30th.

Witnesses reported seeing a man with a knife chasing another man on a bicycle through traffic.

Police arrived and quickly spotted the suspect. The man was holding a knife and was non-compliant with commands to drop the weapon.

A taser was used and the suspect was arrested at gunpoint without further incident.

One of the officers on scene recognized the suspect from an earlier arrest the officer made. The earlier arrest occurred in the morning after a brief foot chase, and the man had been released on a charge of mischief.

Following the second arrest, the suspect was held for telebail on charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of conditions not to possess knives.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call VicPD at (250) 995-7654, extension 1.
