A first-of-its-kind Christmas drive-thru light experience is being postponed until further notice due to COVID-19 restrictions imposed in light of a surge in cases.
Victoria Wonderland announced on December 1 that they will be cancelling a planned 25-minute drive-thru Christmas light experience originally scheduled to take place at the cruise ship terminal in Victoria’s Breakwater district.
“This announcement leaves our team heartbroken as so many of you shared such meaningful stories about your families excitement and plans for attending,” organizers of the event said in an emailed statement.
“Our plan for Victoria Wonderland will depend on how the response to the pandemic in British Columbia continues to unfold. We trust and respect our leaders to make decisions that matter for the greater good of our community.”
The holiday drive-thru event planned to have visitors remaining in their vehicles as they drove through an immersive LED light tunnel and enter a world full of animated lights and holiday grandeur.
Ticket-holders would have been able to visit the light show from December 7 to the 31st, with a limit of 50 vehicles per show.
However provincial health orders imposed late last month ban any type of holiday gathering, including drive-thru events.
While these orders last until December 7, there is the possibility for the restrictions to be extended past that date.
For the many people who already purchased tickets to Victoria Wonderland, refunds will be available through their online accounts on December 7 at 12 p.m.
