485 new cases, four new deaths reported in B.C’s latest COIVD-19 update

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 485 new cases of COVID-19 across the province Wednesday, for a total of 65,719 cases since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 115
  • Fraser Health: 210
  • Island Health: 45
  • Interior Health: 83
  • Northern Health: 32

The number of active cases in B.C. increased from 4,260 to 4,299.

There are now a total of 303 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 74 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

Four more people have died from COVID-related causes, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,172.

6,520 people are in isolation, under active public health monitoring after exposure to COVID-19.

A total of 58,778 people have recovered from novel coronavirus.

Outbreaks

One new health care facility outbreak was reported at Glenwood Seniors Community, while another outbreak was declared at the Fraser Regional Correctional Centre.

The outbreak at Villa Cathay in Vancouver is now over.

In total, there are 28 assisted-living, long-term care homes, seniors’ rental buildings and 10 acute-care facilities with ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks.

Island Health

45 new cases were reported in Island Health on Wednesday.

There are 204 active cases remaining in the region, according to Island Health. By Health Service Delivery Area, they are:

  • South Island: 37 | Total cases: 438
  • Central Island: 153 | Total cases: 807
  • North Island: 14 | Total cases: 276

No new deaths were reported in the Island Health region, with a total of 19 deaths to date.

16 people are currently hospitalized in the Island Health region, including four people in intensive care units.

Vaccinations

To date, 120,205 people have received a COVID-19 vaccine in B.C. 4,160 of those people have received their second dose.
