Fire on grounds of Duncan elementary school forces closure and cancelled classes Monday

Share

A fire outside of an elementary school in the Cowichan Valley forced the cancellation of classes on Monday.

According to the Cowichan Valley School District, the fire occurred nearby Drinkwater Elementary school on January 11th.

The district says that the North Cowichan Fire Department, as well as the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, responded and the fire was quickly extinguished.

Because of the close proximity of the fire, smoke from the blaze made its way into the school’s hallways.

The Fire Department recommended to the district that classes be cancelled on Monday while they worked to clear the smoke from Drinkwater Elementary.

The district says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
