CRAFT Beer Market acquires popular downtown Victoria brewpub

One of downtown Victoria’s popular brewpubs will be joining a new family come March.

Canoe Brewpub has been acquired by CRAFT Beer Market Restaurant & Bar, who currently have seven locations across Canada.

According to a release from CRAFT, they do have long-term renovation goals for the harbour-side eatery, but for now, things will remain the same.

“Our plan is to keep Canoe as Canoe for the time being,” says CRAFT Founder and President PJ L’Heureux. “This will include continuing to brew the Canoe Mainstays (beers) at the brewery while exploring progressive North American and global brewing cultures.”

Don Calveley, founder and owner of Vancouver Island company the Truffles Group will continue to own the building and land that the brewpub is on.

Beginning this spring, Truffles Group will lease the building to CRAFT.

“This is wonderful news for our guests, team and beer lovers in Victoria,” says Calveley of the Truffles Group.

“CRAFT Beer Market brings the same commitment to community involvement, excellent service and outstanding food and beverage that have been the hallmark of Canoe Brewpub for the past 18 years.”

CRAFT Beer Market’s flagship location remains in the historic Salt Building in Vancouver’s Olympic Village, and they will soon be opening a second location in Vancouver’s English Bay Neighborhood on Beach Drive.

The market launched their first location in 2011, and the brand offers a wide selection of North American and international craft beer on tap, paired with a ‘non-pretentious’ menu of fresh, local, food.

“We could not be more excited,” says CRAFT Founder and President PJ L’Heureux. “Canoe will be our first brewing facility and the first member of our family in Victoria.”
