Environment Canada issues wind warning for Greater Victoria Tuesday evening

Share

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Greater Victoria Tuesday evening as a low pressure centre will cross southern Vancouver Island.

Winds are expected to peak late this evening and move across the BC Interior overnight.

Strong winds will develop through Juan de Fuca Strait giving westerly winds of 70 km/h over areas of Greater Victoria near the strait, which are anticipated to persist into early Wednesday afternoon.

Winds over the Southern Gulf Islands will also rise to southwest 70 km/h after midnight and then ease on Wednesday morning.

Strong winds can be dangerous and may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break, often leading to power outages.

Updates and alerts are issued by Environment Canada. People on the ground who witness severe weather can email BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using the hashtag #BCStorm.
