Letter to families warns of positive COVID-19 case at Colwood school

Parents of students at Royal Bay Secondary School in Colwood received notice of a positive case of COVID-19 on Monday evening.

According to the letter, which has been posted on social media by multiple parents, the potential exposure occurred on Friday January 15th.

Island Health is completing contact tracing to identify any staff or students that need to self-isolate or monitor for symptoms.

“Receiving this letter does not mean you or your child has been exposed to COVID-19,” reads the notice.

The letter comes only one day after a positive case was confirmed at the nearby Sequoia Coastal Coffee, which many students from the school are known to frequent.

At this time, there is no confirmation these cases are connected.

An exposure notice for Royal Bay Secondary School in Colwood has not yet been posed on the Island Health ‘school exposures’ page, however, Sooke School District #62 confirmed the positive case via Facebook.

65 new cases were reported in the Island Health region for the period of January 15 to 18.

As of this publication, there are 177 active cases remaining in the region, according to Island Health.

By Health Service Delivery Area, they are:

  • South Island: 27 | Total cases: 397
  • Central Island: 130 | Total cases: 621
  • North Island: 20 | Total cases: 258

Two new deaths were reported in the Island Health region.
