Mayfair Shopping Centre has confirmed that two employees who work in the shopping centre have tested positive for COVID-19.
On December 31st, an Ivanhoé Cambridge representative sent out a letter to tenants stating they were informed a person working at Mayfair Shopping Centre tested positive for the virus.
Since that letter was sent out, it has now been confirmed two people working in two different stores tested positive.
“We have been informed that two people working at Mayfair Shopping Centre have tested positive for COVID-19,” said Laura Poland, the shopping centre’s general manager, in an email statement to Victoria Buzz.
At this time, Mayfair has not disclosed which stores the two employees worked at. The dates the the individuals last worked at the mall were also not released.
“Out of concern for privacy we cannot disclose any additional information about these individuals,” added Poland in her statement.
”Rest assured that we have been following protocols and guidelines to respond to this situation including all cleaning requirements by a cleaning contractor trained to respond to the situation in the areas under its control.”
According to mall management, the individuals in question are no longer in the shopping centre and are currently in isolation.
“Additionally, prior to being informed of this situation and on an ongoing basis, we have been and are continuing to diligently disinfect the common areas throughout the shopping center (elevator buttons, countertops, bathrooms, entry doors, door handles, railing, handrails, etc.),” the statement reads.
“The safety and health of our employees, tenants, customers and visitors is of the utmost importance for us. We rely on one and all’s cooperation and vigilance in order to maintain environments that are safe and healthy for all.”
As of January 2nd, Island Health Authority has not been in contact with the shopping centre management team to advise them of any concerns regarding their property.
Victoria Buzz has reached out to Island Health but have not heard back as of this publication.
Mayfair Shopping Centre remains open, and they have implemented additional cleaning measures to ensure the safety of all shoppers and staff.
