Share

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating after a local mall received a threat late Tuesday morning.

Police say they were called to Woodgrove Centre in response to an unspecified threat directed at the building.

The threat was received by the mall just before it was scheduled to open at 10 a.m.

Officers undertook a search of the premises, accompanied by a RCMP police dog, but nothing suspicious was found.

Customers were kept from entering the mall while the search was completed, while staff were directed to stay inside their businesses.

The search was completed by 11:20 a.m. and the mall was deemed safe for the public to enter.

Nanaimo RCMP officers remained on the scene to search areas inaccessible to the public.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2021-2187.
