Oak Bay police say they were called to assist UVic security in breaking up a large gathering of about 100 students on the weekend.
According to the Oak Bay Police Department, the students had gathered on Saturday in the bushes off Haro Road and Cedar Hill Cross Road.
When officers arrived, the group spread out, continuing to meet in smaller groups around campus.
Several students were not wearing masks, according to police.

Saanich Police were called to assist, and two UVic students, an 18-year-old female and an 18-year-old male were each fined $230.00.
The fines were levied under Section 6 of the Emergency Protection Act as the students and young adults did not comply with instructions to disperse.
Assisted UVIC Security with dispersing a large group of students congregating on Sat night. A couple of them refused to follow direction to disperse after repeated attempts. Each were issued a ticket for $230. Disappointing given efforts most are making to limit COVID spread. pic.twitter.com/O4I6rc9Qky
