Positive case of COVID-19 detected at Chemainus school

A positive case of COVID-19 has been detected at Chemainus Secondary School, leading to an advisory from Island Health.

The health authority says that the exposure occurred on January 4, 2021, affecting one individual in the school community.

Contact tracing has been completed and phone calls have been made to staff and students identified for self-isolation. Those who received a call will need to self-isolate for 14 days from when they were exposed.

Letters have also been sent to staff and students who will be asked to self-monitor for symptoms. They will still be permitted to attend school while self-monitoring.

Staff and parents of students who did not receive a phone call or letter can rest assured they and their children are not at a high risk of exposure. These individuals can continue to attend school as normal.

Chemainus Secondary School is the first school exposure listed for the Island Health region in 2021.
