The RCMP are looking for drivers who may have dashcam footage or witnessed a crash near Nanaimo that sent four people to hospital.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The Nanaimo RCMP say a preliminary investigation shows a westbound van crossed the centre line on the Duke Point Highway, one kilometre from the Highway 1 intersection.

Two occupants were in the van, which collided with an eastbound semi-tractor, causing the semi-tractor to go off the roadway to the left.

The van’s female passenger was ejected onto the roadway. Immediately afterwards, a westbound pickup truck collided with the van.

The van passenger, the pickup truck driver and the semi-tractor driver all received serious injuries.

Air ambulance transported the pickup driver to Victoria hospital, while the van passenger and semi-tractor driver were taken to Nanaimo hospital by ground ambulance.

The van’s driver received minor injuries and was also taken to Nanaimo hospital.

Police say all three vehicles involved in the collision were destroyed and the highway will be closed for most of the day.

Anyone with dash cam video, cell phone footage, or who may have witnessed the crash should contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2021-1374.
