The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 625 new cases of COVID-19 across the province on Wednesday, for a total of 55,254 cases since the pandemic began.
New cases were reported in these health regions:
- Vancouver Coastal Health: 178
- Fraser Health: 305
- Island Health: 28
- Interior Health: 71
- Northern Health: 43
The number of active cases in B.C. has decreased from 6,472 to 6,343.
There are now a total of 381 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 78 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.
8 more people have died from COVID-related causes, bringing the provincial death toll to 962.
8,719 people are in isolation, under active public health monitoring, after exposure to COVID-19.
A total of 46,728 people have recovered from novel coronavirus.
Outbreaks
Two new health-care facility outbreaks have been declared, at Chilliwack General Hospital and Sunnybank Retirement Home.
Outbreaks at Crofton Manor and CareLife Fleetwood are now over.
In total, there are 52 assisted-living, long-term care homes, seniors’ rental buildings and 10 acute-care facilities with ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks.

Island Health
28 new cases were reported in the Island Health region on Wednesday, breaking a record of 27 cases on November 27.
As of Wednesday, there are 142 active cases remaining on the Island. By Health Service Delivery Area, they are:
- South Island: 58 | Total cases: 360
- Central Island: 55 | Total cases: 441
- North Island: 29 | Total cases: 228
No new deaths were reported in the Island Health region. Nine people are currently hospitalized, including two in intensive care units.

Vaccinations
33,665(+5,456) people have been inoculated against COVID-19 across B.C. with vaccinations from Pfizer and Moderna.
