A staff member at Sunridge Place, a care home in Duncan, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Island Health confirmed the positive case in an email to Victoria Buzz. Contact tracing has been completed on the individual, and all identified close contacts are required to self-isolate.

In this case, Island Health says that there has been no risk of exposure identified through contact tracing, and therefore no outbreak has been declared for Sunridge Place.

The health authority also said that all long-term care homes are practicing extreme vigilance to reduce the risk of transmission.

Protocols are in place to prevent the spreading of the virus including frequent screening of residents, staff and visitors for COVID-19 symptoms.

An email sent to residents and their families also asks that visitors avoid Sunridge Place if they are currently experiencing COVID-like symptoms.

Another long-term care facility in Duncan, Ts’i’ts’uwatul’ Lelum assisted living, was the site of the most recent health facility outbreak in B.C.
