School District 69 has notified families of a positive case of COVID-19 at a high school in Parksville, which was later confirmed by Island Health.

The Qualicum School District said in a release that one person who attends Ballenas Secondary School has tested positive for the virus.

The individual who tested positive attended the school on both January 22nd and January 25th, 2021.

“Island Health staff have initiated contact tracing to identify individuals needing to self-isolate or self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms,” School District 69 said in their release, sent out Wednesday.

Island Health reminds the public that anyone who is not contacted by public health teams can continue attending the school as usual, though everyone is still asked to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 regularly.

Island Health’s COVID-19 exposure list currently has 7 Vancouver Island schools on it, including two in Victoria – most recently, École Macaulay Elementary School added.
