435 new cases and 4 more deaths reported in latest B.C. COVID update

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 435 new cases of COVID-19 across the province on Tuesday, for a total of 71,387 cases since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 107
  • Fraser Health: 221
  • Island Health: 23
  • Interior Health: 47
  • Northern Health: 37

The number of active cases in B.C. increased from 3,976 to 4,393.

There are now a total of 241 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 68 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

4 more people have died from COVID-related causes, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,263.

Over 6,879 people are in isolation, under active public health monitoring after exposure to COVID-19.

A total of 65,618 people have recovered from novel coronavirus.

Outbreaks

There were no new health facility outbreaks reported in B.C. on Tuesday.

There was one new community outbreak at Highridge/Singh group home in Kamloops.

In total, there are 19 assisted-living, long-term care homes, seniors’ rental buildings and eight acute-care facilities with ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks.

Island Health

23 new cases were reported in Island Health on Tuesday.

There are 235 active cases remaining in the region, according to Island Health. By Health Service Delivery Area, they are:

  • South Island: 64 | Total cases: 525
  • Central Island: 162 | Total cases: 1,061
  • North Island: 9 | Total cases: 289

No new deaths were reported in the Island Health region, with a total of 20 deaths to date.

22 people are currently hospitalized in the Island Health region, including seven people in intensive care units.

Vaccinations and Variants

To date, 155,585 people in B.C. have received a COVID-19 vaccine. 12,802 of those people have received their second dose.
