471 new cases of COVID-19 reported in latest B.C. update

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 471 new cases of COVID-19 across the province on Friday, for a total of 69,716 cases since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 108
  • Fraser Health: 208
  • Island Health: 28
  • Interior Health: 56
  • Northern Health: 71

The number of active cases in B.C. increased from 4,447 to 4,423.

There are now a total of 253 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 70 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

Six more people have died from COVID-related causes, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,246.

6,886 people are in isolation, under active public health monitoring after exposure to COVID-19.

A total of 62,567 people have recovered from novel coronavirus.

Outbreaks

No new health facility outbreaks were reported in B.C. on Friday.

In total, there are 24 assisted-living, long-term care homes, seniors’ rental buildings and nine acute-care facilities with ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks.

Island Health

28 new cases were reported in Island Health on Friday.

There are 236 active cases remaining in the region, according to Island Health. By Health Service Delivery Area, they are:

  • South Island: 61 | Total cases: 493
  • Central Island: 165 | Total cases: 988
  • North Island: 10 | Total cases: 286

No new deaths were reported in the Island Health region, with a total of 20 deaths to date.

18 people are currently hospitalized in the Island Health region, including five people in intensive care units.

Vaccinations

To date, 149,564 people in B.C. have received a COVID-19 vaccine. 10,366 of those people have received their second dose.
