West Saanich Road has reopened after a fatal two-vehicle crash Thursday morning closed the road for most of the day.

The crash, involving a white Dodge Ram pickup truck and a black two-door Honda CRX, was reported around 7:30 a.m. in the 5200 block of West Saanich Road.

The driver of a black Honda CRX was pronounced dead at the scene and was the only occupant of that vehicle.

The driver of the white Dodge Ram pickup truck was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was also the only occupant of that vehicle.

“Unfortunately one of the drivers succumbed to their injuries and our thoughts are with their family today,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades of the Saanich Police department.

Police did release details on what led to the crash or whether speed was considered a factor.

“It will take some time to investigate and determine the events that led up to the collision, as well as the cause of death,” said Anastasiades.

Anyone who witnessed the crash but have not spoken to a police yet are asked to call the Saanich Police department at 250-475-4321. They’re are also looking for dashcam footage.
