Man arrested for allegedly choking woman in tent at Beacon Hill Park

One man was arrested and later released following an alleged violent assault at Beacon Hill Park Saturday night.

The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. inside a tent.

In a media release, VicPD say a woman called police to report that a man threatened her with a firearm and assaulted her inside a tent before she was able to escape.

VicPD offers were able to locate the suspects tent in Beacon Hill Park where he was taken in to custody without incident.

The man was arrested for assault by choking and assault with a weapon. Police were not able to locate a firearm at the scene.

BC Emergency Health Services paramedics treated the victim at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was later released with a court date and conditions.

While police were investigating that case, officers arrested an additional man for an unrelated case. He was the subject of a warrant for breach of probation related to a robbery file from Port Alberni.
