Oak Bay invites public feedback on two final marina proposals

Share

The District of Oak Bay is asking the public for feedback on two competing proposals for the future use and operation of the Oak Bay Marina.

Turkey Head, the promontory and breakwater at 1327 Beach Drive where the marina is located, will be up for a new lease term from 2023 to 2052.

Following an initial call for leasing proposals that ended on November 30, the District says that two proposals have passed their technical standards review.

Those proposals will now move to the community amenity review stage. Members of the public will be able to view the proposals online at connect.oakbay.ca/marina-lease.

They can then offer their thoughts through a questionnaire from February 9 to March 2.

People can also offer their feedback to the proposals at a committee of the whole meeting on March 1 at 6 p.m.

In order to participate in the committee meeting, members of the public can:

  • Provide written comments via mail, drop them off at Municipal Hall or email them to obcouncil@oakbay.ca before noon on the day of the meeting. This input will be shared through the Council Agenda.
  • Pre-register to speak at Council via Zoom by emailing administration@oakbay.ca before noon on the day of the meeting, and providing a name and phone number to call into the meeting from.
  • Phone in during the live meeting.

“While the site has been enjoyed in its current form for sixty years, we are eager to consider the best use for current and future generations on this special location,” said Mayor Kevin Murdoch.

“We encourage residents to take a moment to review the proposals and share their feedback.”

Following the public feedback opportunities, Council will score proposals for community amenities. Those proposals that score a minimum of 70 per cent will be advanced for financial review and a final scoring.

The District says they anticipate a proponent will be selected for a lease negotiation process by late spring 2021.
