A 19-year-old man has died as a result of injuries he sustained in a single vehicle collision that occurred this past Sunday.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on March 21st, a resident of Cedar driving by the 2400 block of Yellow Point Road called 911 after seeing a vehicle in the ditch.

Nanaimo RCMP, EHS, Cedar Volunteer Fire Department, and the BC Coroners Service attended the scene.

Investigators were unable to find any direct witnesses to the crash, and it is unknown exactly when the incident occurred.

Examiners said that it appeared the deceased was driving south along Yellow Point Road, lost control of his vehicle, and drove off the road way to the left. The vehicle — a silver Mercedes — was at rest next to a large tree.

As of now, it is unclear how he lost control.

Police are unable to rule out speed and alcohol as contributing factors in the crash.

The investigation is continuing.

If anyone has any pre-collision dash cam driving evidence, they’re asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
