Sooke RCMP arrested a 42-year-old man for arson at a Sooke shelter on Otter Point Road Thursday morning.
Just before 7 a.m. on March 25th, police were called to the shelter after reports that the suspect — a resident of the shelter — was causing issues by lighting things on fire in his living area.
When police arrived, smoke could be seen coming from the shelter.
Officers evacuated the building and no one was injured.
The suspect was identified but fled the scene prior to police arrival.
A search for him began and he was located a short time later on a BC Transit bus departing Sooke.
He was arrested for arson and taken into custody without incident.
