BC health officials reports 1,785 new COVID-19 cases for three-day period on March 22nd

The BC Ministry of Health reported 1,785 new cases of COVID-19 across the province for a three day period between Friday, March 19th and Monday March 22nd.

There has been a total of 92,571 cases since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 469
Fraser Health: 1,110
Island Health: 89
Interior Health: 84
Northern Health: 133

The number of active cases in BC increased from 5,207 to 5,290.

There are now a total of 303 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 80 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

16 new people have died from COVID-related causes making the provincial death toll at 1,437.

9,330 people are under active public health monitoring after exposure to COVID-19.

A total of 85,746 people have recovered from novel coronavirus.

Outbreaks

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks.

The outbreaks at The Florentine and Chilliwack General Hospital are now over.

There are four active outbreaks in long-term facilities and seven in acute-care facilities.

Island Health

Island Health reported 78 new cases of COVID-19 today.

The number of active cases on the island increased by 18 cases to 235 remaining active cases.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 102 (+19)│ Total Cases: 810 (+41)
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 110 (+10) │ Total Cases: 1,643 (+31)
  • North Vancouver Island Active cases: 23 (-6) │ Total Cases: 484 (+6)

13 people remain in hospital with 3 in ICU.

There were no new deaths in the Island Health region.

28 people have died since the pandemic began.

Vaccinations and Variants

To date, 539,408 (+49,386) doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 87,139 (n/a) of which are second doses.

There have been 166 new confirmed COVID-19 cases that are variants of concern in our province.

Of the total number of 1,366 confirmed variant cases, 237 cases are active and the remaining people have recovered.

Of the total, 1,240 cases were of the UK variant, 41 cases were of the South Africa variant, and 85 cases of the Brazil variant.
