Victoria-Beacon Hill MLA stepping back after son diagnosed with brain tumour

The MLA for Victoria-Beacon Hill announced on Sunday she’s taking a step back from her role after doctors found a tumour in her 4-year-old son.

In a social media post, Grace Lore said her young son Ash has been receiving medical treatment after a tumour was discovered in his brain last month.

Lore said she will be temporarily reducing her duties as MLA in order to care for her family.

“I remain your MLA for Victoria-Beacon Hill but am relying on the incredible support of my staff, the public service and my colleagues for stepping up to make sure my community is cared for while I take care of my family during this difficult time,” Lore wrote in a Twitter post.

Lore, who is also parliamentary secretary for gender equity, was elected in October 2020, replacing long-time NDP politician Carole James, who retired after holding the riding for more than a decade.

“Thank you so much for your patience and support and I am very much looking forward to my full return,” Lore added in her tweets.
