BC Health officials report 849 new cases of COVID-19 for Tuesday, April 20th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 849 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, April 20th.

There have been 120,889 cases since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 247
Fraser Health: 474
Island Health: 29
Interior Health: 67
Northern Health: 31

Active cases in BC have decreased from 9,353 to 9,145.

There are currently 13,679 people under public health monitoring and 109,973 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 456 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 148 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

One new person has died from COVID-related causes making the provincial death toll 1,539.

Outbreaks

There have been no new outbreaks reported.

There are currently 5 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 5 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health

Island Health reported 32 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day period today, April 20th.

There are 326 active cases on the island.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island –  Active cases: 194 │Total Cases: 1,561
  • Central Vancouver Island –Active cases: 94  │Total Cases: 2,188
  • North Vancouver Island – Active cases: 38 │ Total Cases: 595

29 people remain in hospital with 5 in ICU.

There were no new deaths in the Island Health region.

33 people have died since the pandemic began.

Vaccinations and Variants

To date, 1,414,644 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C, 88,263 of which are second doses.

There have been a total number of 6,179 confirmed variant cases, 163 cases are active and the remaining people recovered.

Of that total, 4,041 cases were of the UK variant, 76 cases were of the South Africa variant, and 2,062 cases of the Brazil variant.
