BC health officials report 1,068 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, April 6th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 1,068 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, April 6th, for a total of 105,988 cases since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 352
Fraser Health: 492
Island Health: 73
Interior Health: 106
Northern Health: 43
Residents outside Canada: 2

There are now a total of 328 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 96 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

Three new people have died from COVID-related causes making the provincial death toll at 1,489.

There are no new active outbreaks.

Island Health

Island Health reported 292 new cases of COVID-19 today for a five day period from Thursday, April 1st to Tuesday, April 6th.

There are 463 of active cases on the island.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island –  Active cases: 254 │Total Cases: 1,186
  • Central Vancouver Island –Active cases: 182  │Total Cases: 1,952
  • North Vancouver Island – Active cases: 27│ Total Cases: 530

17 people remain in hospital with 4 in ICU.

There were 2 new deaths in the Island Health region.

31 people have died since the pandemic began.

Vaccinations and Variants

To date, 912,056 (+18,466) doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 87,474(+2) of which are second doses.

There were 207 new confirmed COVID-19 cases that are variants of concern in our province.

Of the total number of 3,766 confirmed variant cases, 266 cases are active and the remaining people recovered.

Of the total, 2,838 cases were of the UK variant, 51 cases were of the South Africa variant, and 877 cases of the Brazil variant.

63 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 variants of concern.
