Popular waterfront pub in Sidney rebrands as Italian restaurant

A long-standing pub in Sidney is going Italian.

The Beacon Landing Restaurant & Lounge announced it will be switching gears and becoming Riva – so instead of the classic pub fare customers have come to know and love, the restaurant will be moving toward a more Italian cuisine later this week .

The restaurant can seat 85 people and includes a 125-seat fully-licensed lounge with a spacious outdoor patio — most of the decor and ambience will remain the same with a few touch ups and updates.

The new menu will undergo a soft opening for the next few weeks until their grand opening when indoor dining is allowed.

Marked by its change in head chef and general manager, according to a Riva employee, the change is coming together this week.

Riva opens daily at 11 a.m. and because of the current indoor dining ban, the restaurant will close as the evening quiets down which is around 9 p.m., according to general manager Douglas Stassi.

The restaurant does feature a large outdoor oceanfront patio.

“Guests can expect fresh Italian and Mediterranean flavours in tapas style dishes using plenty of local ingredients, great cocktails, and Italian + BC VQA wine,” Stassi said in a email to Victoria Buzz.

“The space already felt very Italian and Sidney was lacking this type of cuisine. After getting lots of positive feedback from locals, we decided to make the switch,” Stassi added.

With its seaside tables, Beacon Landing Restaurant & Lounge has long been a favourite of Saanich Peninsula residents for many years. And now, for those visiting the oceanfront town, they’ll be able to enjoy a slice of Italy along with the sweeping views.

The patio reopened to customers on April 21st.
