The BC Ministry of Health reported 317 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, May 28th, for a total of 143,581 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
New cases were reported in these health regions:
Vancouver Coastal Health: 73
Fraser Health: 163
Island Health: 5
Interior Health: 60
Northern Health: 16
There are currently 3,441 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.
138,360 people who tested positive have recovered.
There are now a total of 292 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 79 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.
Two new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,692.
Outbreaks
There is one new outbreak at Brookside Lodge in the Fraser Health region.
There are currently 3 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 2 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health:
Island Health reported 83 active cases on the Island today.
Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:
- South Vancouver Island Active cases: 32 (0) │Total Cases: 1,893
- Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 32 (-4)│ Total Cases: 2,434
- North Vancouver Island Active cases: 19 (-4)│Total Cases: 688
11 people remain in hospital with 1 in ICU.
There were no new deaths in the Island Health region.

Vaccinations
To date, 3,032,811 (+73,458) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 160,885 of which are second doses.
506,251 people living in the Island Health authority have received their first dose.
This means roughly 65 per cent of Vancouver Island’s population (ages 12+) is protected with one dose of vaccine.
