357 new cases of COVID-19 reported by BC health officials on Thursday, May 20th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 357 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, May 19th, for a total of 140,953 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 80
Fraser Health: 210
Island Health: 12
Interior Health: 33
Northern Health: 22

There are currently 4,636 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

134,521 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 331 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 113 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

3 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,661.

Outbreaks

One new outbreak was declared at Chartwell Carlton Care Residence in the Fraser Health region.

The outbreak at Dawson Creek & District Hospital has been declared over.

There are currently 3 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 2 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health:

Island Health reported 121 active cases on the Island today.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 35 (0)│Total Cases: 1,868
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 53 (-2)│ Total Cases: 2,406
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 33 (+3)│Total Cases: 676

10 people remain in hospital with 3 in ICU.

There were no new deaths in the Island Health region.

40 people have died since the pandemic began.

To date, 2,687,360 (+54,543) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 138,906 of which are second doses.
