694 new cases of COVID-19 were reported by BC health officials on Thursday, May 6th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 694 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, May 6th.

There have been 133,619 cases of COVID-19 reported in BC since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 153
Fraser Health: 445
Island Health: 17
Interior Health: 52
Northern Health: 27

There are currently 6,802 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

125,055 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 457 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 154 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

One new person has died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,595.*

*There is a discrepancy in BC health officials’ number of deaths this week.*

Outbreaks

There have been no new outbreaks reported today.

There are currently 4 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 3 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health

Island Health reported 17 new cases and 187 active cases on the island today.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 93 (-5) Total Cases: 1,799 (+9)
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 74 (0) Total Cases: 2,322 (+6)
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 20 (-3) Total Cases: 634 (+2)

15 people remain in hospital with 5 in ICU.

There was no new deaths in the Island Health region.

38 people have died since the pandemic began.

Vaccinations

To date, 1,995,496 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 95,868, of which are second doses.
