697 new cases of COVID-19 reported by BC health officials on Tuesday, May 4th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 697 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, May 4th.

There have been 132,353 cases of COVID-19 reported in BC since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 142
Fraser Health: 456
Island Health: 19
Interior Health: 65
Northern Health: 14
Resident outside Canada: 1

There are currently 7,161 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

10,961 people are under public health monitoring and a further 123,383 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 486 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 173 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

1 new person has died from COVID-related causes making the provincial death toll at 1,597.

Outbreaks

The outbreaks at Cottonwoods Care Centre and Mount St. Mary Hospital are now over.

There are currently 8 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 7 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health

Island Health reported 19 new cases and 203 active cases on the island today.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 102 (-9) Total Cases: 1,774 (+8)
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 79 (-4) Total Cases: 2,314 (+6)
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 22 (+4) Total Cases: 630 (+5)

15 people remain in hospital with 5 in ICU.

There was no new deaths in the Island Health region.

38 people have died since the pandemic began.

Vaccinations

To date, 1,910,162 (+32,832) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 92,244, of which are second doses.
