8 amazing places to watch the sunset in and around Victoria

As June quickly approaches, Victoria residents are welcoming the longer days and warmer nights with open arms.

With provincial restrictions in place, many are looking to move their activities outdoors to take advantage of the weather and stunning views.

Victoria is home to some incredible lookouts and spots perfect for enjoying throughout the day and into the golden hours.

So grab a blanket, snacks, and someone in your household bubble and check out 8 of the best spots to watch the sunset in and around Victoria:

Christmas Hill

Located in Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary, Christmas Hill is a loop trail easily accessible for all skill levels. Enjoy the wildflower lined trail and lookout.

Mount Doug

Mount Doug offers a breathtaking, panoramic view of Victoria from its peak. The mountain offers an intermediate hike to the top, or you can drive straight to the peak if that’s more your style. If hiking, be sure to follow the white trail markers and watch your step on the way down.

Mount Tolmie

Located close to UVic, Mount Tolmie offers a 360-degree view of Victoria from the top. The viewpoint is easily accessible by car or a quick 30-minute hike up through the easy to navigate the trail.

Macaulay Point Park

With an epic view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Peninsula beyond MacAulay Point Park is a perfect spot to take in the sunset. Take a stroll along the walking path or relax on the little beach.

Moss Rock Park

Moss Rock Park, also called Fairfield Hill Park, overlooks Clover Point Park, across the Strait of Juan de Fuca toward the Olympic Mountains. This short walk and moderate climb brings you to a beautiful lookout spot, perfect for a relaxing picnic and sunset date.

Ogden Point Breakwater

If you are looking to enjoy a sunset stroll by the water, the Ogden Point Breakwater is the perfect spot to do so. A local favourite, the Breakwater offers a view of the Victoria harbour and marine wildlife. Continue your walk along Dallas Road to visit Clover Point Park.

Saxe Point Park

Saxe Point Park, located in Esquimalt, includes a 1km loop trail, picnic tables, beach access and incredible views of the Olympic Mountains and Strait of Juan de Fuca. Visit at sunset for a magical experience.

Walbran Park Lookout

Often referred to as “Gonzales Hill”, Walbran Park Lookout is an undeveloped natural area in Oak Bay with walking paths and rocky knolls. The park offers views of the ocean, mountains and surrounding neighbourhoods, as well as The Gonzales Hill Observatory, a weather station for 75 years and now a heritage building.
