BC health officials report 1,360 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day period on Monday, May 17th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 1,360 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day period on Monday, May 17th.

There have been a total of 139,664 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

Cases Day-to-Day: 

Friday to Saturday: 443
Saturday to Sunday: 493
Sunday to Monday: 424

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 291
Fraser Health: 861
Island Health: 36
Interior Health: 126
Northern Health: 47

There are currently 5,021 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

130,953 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 350 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 132 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

14 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,648.

Outbreaks

There are no new outbreaks to report.

There are currently 3 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 2 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health

Island Health reported 34 new cases on the island today and 126 active cases.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 48 (-18) Total Cases: 1,856
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 56 (-6) Total Cases: 2,388
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 28 (+1) Total Cases: 665

13 people remain in hospital with 4 in ICU.

There were no new deaths in the Island Health region.

39 people have died since the pandemic began.

Vaccinations

As of last week, 2,393,265 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered in BC.
