BC health officials report 289 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, May 25th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 289 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, May 25th, for a total of 142,636 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 70
Fraser Health: 176
Island Health: 3
Interior Health: 35
Northern Health: 4
Resident outside Canada: 1

There are currently 3,782 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

135,068 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 301 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 93 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

One new person has died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,680.

Outbreaks

There are currently 3 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 2 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health:

Island Health reported 93 active cases on the Island today.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 30 (-4) │Total Cases: 1,881
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases:36 (-10)│ Total Cases: 2,424
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 27 (-5)│Total Cases: 684

11 people remain in hospital with 3 in ICU.

There were no new deaths in the Island Health region.

40 people have died since the pandemic began

Vaccinations

To date, 2,927,487 (+41,999) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 148,580 of which are second doses.

64.6% of all adults have received their first dose, or 59.8% of those 12 and older.
