BC health officials report 521 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, May 19th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 521 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, May 19th, for a total of 140,596 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 77
Fraser Health: 335
Island Health: 18
Interior Health: 62
Northern Health: 29

There are currently 4,815 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

133,985 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 340 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 118 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

8 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,658.

Outbreaks

There are currently 3 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 2 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health Breakdown:

The BCCDC reported 18 new cases on the island today.

South Vancouver Island:  Active cases: 35 (-9) Total Cases: 1,864

Central Vancouver Island: Active cases: 55 (+7) Total Cases: 2,403

North Vancouver Island:  Active cases: 30 (-3) Total Cases: 673

11  (-2) hospitalized on Vancouver Island, 3 (0) in ICU

Total deaths in Island Health Region: 40 (0)
