BC health officials report 708 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day period on Monday, May 31st

The BC Ministry of Health reported 708 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day period from Friday, May 28th to Monday, May 31st.

There have been 144,289 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

Day-to-Day Breakdown:

Friday-Saturday: 258
Saturday-Sunday: 238
Sunday-Monday: 212

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 140
Fraser Health: 394
Island Health: 18
Interior Health: 113
Northern Health: 42
Resident outside Canada: 1

There are currently 2,953 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

139,562 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 249 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 78 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

11 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,703.

Outbreaks

There have been two new outbreaks at Richmond Lions Manor-Bridgeport in Vancouver Coastal health region and Iqra Islamic school in the Fraser health region.

Outbreak in Lion’s Gate Hospital is now over.

There are currently 6 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 2 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health:

Island Health reported 64 active cases on the Island today.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 28 (-4) │Total Cases: 1,903
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 29 (-3) │ Total Cases: 2,442
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 7 (-12)│Total Cases: 688

7 people remain in hospital with 1 in ICU.

There was one new death in the Island Health region.

41 people have died since the pandemic began

Vaccinations

To date, 3,250,160 (+217,349) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 179,954 of which are second doses.

There has been one more case of ViTT (vaccine induced prothrombotic immune thrombocytopenia) from the AstraZeneca vaccine.

A man in his 30s in the Island Health region is being treated in hospital for ViTT.

There have been 3 total cases of ViTT in BC.

People will have option of whether to mix and match first and second doses for AstraZeneca vaccine. BC Immunization Committee has been looking at data from Manitoba — where residents are mixing and matching AstraZeneca with the mRNA vaccines.
