BC health officials report 722 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, May 7th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 722 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, May 7th for a total of 134,341 cases of COVID-19 reported in BC since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 115
Fraser Health: 523
Island Health: 20
Interior Health: 38
Northern Health: 26

There are currently 6,757 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

125,799 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 445 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 157 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

7 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,602.

Outbreaks

There have been no new outbreaks reported today.

There are currently 4 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 3 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health

Island Health reported 16 new cases and 180 active cases on the island today.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 84 (-9) Total Cases: 1,804 (+5)
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 75 (+1) Total Cases: 2,330 (+8)
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 21 (+1) Total Cases: 637 (+3)

15 people remain in hospital with 4 in ICU.

There was no new deaths in the Island Health region.

38 people have died since the pandemic began.

Vaccinations

To date, 2,042,442 (+46,946) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 99,461 of which are second doses.
