Dr. Bonnie Henry proposes BC Hug Day in July once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted

Yay or nay to BC Hug Day?

On Tuesday, Dr. Bonnie Henry and John Horgan addressed the province, unveiling the British Columbia Restart Plan in regards to COVID-19.

The four-step plan, which outlines BC’s eventual return to ‘normal life’, includes guidelines for areas such as travel, business, sports/leisure and mask use.

During the update, Henry proposed a provincial “hug day” in BC, an idea she has been trying to pitch to the premier for July, once British Columbians are able to safely remove their masks.

Although Henry recognizes not everyone enjoys being hugged, hugging was at the top of her list of what she has missed most during the pandemic.

Despite there being no official provincial “Hug Day” yet, Henry believes that if things continue to go well and provincial steps move forward as planned, we will be able to hug our neighbours again soon.

How do you feel about a BC Hug Day? Some people took to social media to share their thoughts:
