The family have identified the woman who succumbed to her injuries after a fire in the North Park neighbourhood of Victoria early Wednesday morning.

According to her family, the fire was accidental but the cause remains unknown.

Family members tell Victoria Buzz, Sharon Diane Milan died after going back into her suite to rescue her dog, Ringo, who also died in the fire.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the victim’s family to help cover the cost of her funeral services and expenses.

The Victoria Fire department were called to an apartment building at 1035 North Park Street just before 1:30 a.m. on May 26th for flames coming out of a third-floor suite.

Two other people were rescued from their balconies. Milan and her dog were sadly not.

“It’s such a sudden loss of a beautiful soul, Sharon Diane Milan. The surviving sons Rick and Terry Shewchuk, would appreciate any help [fundraising] for her death expenses and services, at such an unexpected time of loss,” read the fundraiser.

“Any additional funds raised above and beyond our goal will be given as a donation to a charity in Sharon and Ringo [her dog’s] honour. We all love and will miss you dearly Sharon. Our beloved mother, grandma, sister and friend.”

The fundraiser has set a goal of $8,000.
