Man arrested after Victoria roommates find armed stranger in their home

Share

A man is in police custody after a pair of Victoria roommates discovered him in their home armed with a club.

VicPD say they were called just before 1:30 a.m. on May 24 for a report of a break and enter in the 300-block of Cook Street.

Two roommates sharing an apartment in the area reported that they were awoken in the middle of the night by sounds.

Investigating the noise, the roommates discovered a man armed with a makeshift club on their couch.

They retreated together to a room with a lockable door and called 911.

Officers responded to the call and discovered the man on the apartment’s couch. He was taken into custody.

After identifying the man, police found that he is also facing prior charges for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

These charges stem from an incident in December 2020, when the man allegedly threated two strangers with a knife.

The man also faces pending charges for breaking and entering, as well as breach of court-ordered conditions.

VicPD say on top of this, the man has prior criminal convictions for sexual offences and assault.

Due to these issues, the man was held in police custody for a court appearance.

Police are still investigating. Anyone with information about these incidents, including the one from December 2020 and this new incident, is asked to contact VicPD at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.

Anonymous reports can be made through Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
