Nanaimo RCMP are asking for the public’s help identifying a potential arson suspect

Nanaimo RCMP have released surveillance photos of an alleged arson suspect in hopes the community can help identify the person.

On Monday, March 29th, at around 9 p.m. considerable damage was done to a section of Dollarama on 609 Bruce Avenue.

The person in the photo was seen leaving the Dollarama minutes after the fire was reported.

Customers were directed out of the business and the sprinkler systems were activated while police and fire crews responded.

According Nanaimo RCMP, the fire caused extensive damage to the interior of the business.

Investigators were told a man was seen in the immediate area of where the fire was started and had been inside the business for upwards of 15 minutes prior to the fire being reported.

This person was seen leaving the building through the rear door, pushing a shopping cart.

The man is described as being approximately 6 foot 5, thin build, wearing a red and pink mask and dark clothing.

Nanaimo RCMP are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call them at 250-754-2345.
