A 14-year-old boy has died over the weekend of a suspected overdose, Campbell River RCMP said in a statement.

The unidentified male’s death was reported the afternoon of May 29th.

“Our hearts go out to the family of the young man that was lost,” said Cst. Maury Tyre.

The news comes less than a month after a 12-year-old girl in Saanich died of a suspected overdose. She is believed to be one of the youngest victims in BC’s ongoing opioid crisis.

Campbell River RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are investigating the death of the 14-year-old boy.

Anyone with firsthand information is asked to call the Campbell River RCMP detachment at 250-286-6221.

Police say no further information will be released in regards to the incident.
