A Qualicum Beach woman is celebrating a sudden windfall after she took home $50,000 on a scratch and win ticket.
Karen Trimble, a local of the Vancouver Island town, purchased her winning ticket from Coombs Corner Petro-Canada, on Alberni Highway.
She later sat down with a cup of coffee and scratched the Maximum Gold ticket, and was shocked at what she saw.
“At first, I didn’t believe it and had to check and recheck the ticket,” Trimble said.
“I even read the instructions on the back of the ticket to confirm that I had won!”
She immediately signed the ticket and went back to Coombs Corner to verify the win.
“The first thing that crossed my mind was ‘is this real and really happening?’ It’s unbelievable!” Trimble said.
The Qualicum Beach resident plans to treat her family and herself for a few gifts, while also making donations to a local charity and saving for retirement.
On how it feels to win, she says “For me, it’s absolute gratitude.”
