Police have had to euthanize three wolf-domestic dog breeds on Tuesday after a 69-year-old woman at the SWELL Wolf Education Centre sustained serious non-life threatening injuries from an attack.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25th, in South Wellington, when the caretaker entered the pen and the animals attacked her.

Police, BC Conservation, EHS and Cranberry Volunteer Fire responded to the incident.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, the woman had entered the pen many times before, and it’s unknown why the animals attacked this time.

Her husband entered the pen and provided assistance then walked her out for medical attention.

Investigators learned that the three animals involved are a mixture of wolf and domestic dog that were housed in a secure pen on private property.

EHS transported the injured female to the Nanaimo airport where she was then flown by air ambulance to a Victoria hospital.

RCMP reported that the animals were subsequently euthanized.

Victoria Buzz has reached out to the sanctuary for further information regarding the incident but have not heard back as of this publication.
