VicPD arrested a 48-year-old man today after assaulting a woman with a hammer in Irving Park.
According to a media release, on Monday morning, at 9:45 a.m., officers were called to a verbal altercation at Irving Park in the 200-block of Menzies Street.
En route, officers learned that the argument escalated to where the man destroyed the woman’s tent with a baseball bat, and then assaulted her with a hammer.
VicPD arrived on scene, located the suspect and took him into custody.
Police said the suspect has a lengthy criminal history which includes more than 50 criminal convictions.
He faces charges of assault with a weapon, breach of probation, and breach of a release order.
VicPD do not believe this incident is related to intimate partner violence.
