165 new cases of COVID-19 reported by BC health officials on Tuesday, June 8th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 165 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, June 8th

There have been 145,695 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 30
  • Fraser Health: 78
  • Island Health: 10
  • Interior Health: 42
  • Northern Health: 5

There are currently 2,051 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

141,879 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 203 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 57 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

There were no reports of deaths from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,722.

Outbreaks

There are currently 5 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 1 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

The outbreak at Brookside Lodge in the Fraser Health region has been declared over.

Island Health:

Island Health reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Island region.
Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:
  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 17 (-2)│Total Cases: 1919
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 8 (-0) │ Total Cases: 2447
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 4 (+2)│Total Cases: 694

3 people remain in hospital with 0 in ICU.

There have been no new deaths in the Island Health region.

41 people have died since the pandemic began

Vaccinations

74.2% of all adults in B.C. and 71.9% of those 12 and older have now received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine

To date, 3,685,340 (+49,545) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 345,508 (+31,262) of which are second doses.
